Privacy policy

Data controller

Marvin Beckmann is responsible for the processing of personal data initiated by the operator of this website. You can contact me using the postal address or email address in the legal notice above.

Hosting and access data

This website is hosted on GitHub Pages. When you visit it, the hosting service receives the connection and request data needed to deliver the page, including your IP address. GitHub states that it logs and stores Pages visitors’ IP addresses for security purposes, whether or not they are signed in to GitHub. See GitHub Pages: data collection.

I use this hosting service to make the website available and support its secure operation. The legal basis for the processing I initiate for these purposes is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: my legitimate interest in providing and securing the website. Transmission of your IP address is technically necessary to serve the requested pages. I do not receive individual visitor logs through this website.

GitHub receives the hosting data. Its privacy statement identifies GitHub B.V., Prins Bernhardplein 200, 1097 JB Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, United States. GitHub also processes data in the United States and other countries. Its stated international transfer mechanisms include Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

GitHub determines retention according to the processing purpose and legal obligations. The linked documentation does not specify a fixed retention period for Pages visitor logs. Further details, including processing for which GitHub acts as a controller in its own right, are available in the GitHub Privacy Statement.

Cookies, analytics, and external content

The website itself does not set cookies or use local storage. I do not use visitor analytics, advertising trackers, comment platforms, or embedded social media content. Fonts come from those available on your device; stylesheets and images are served with the website.

External websites are included as ordinary links. When you follow a link, the destination operator’s privacy notice applies. The RSS feed is available without registration, and I do not maintain a subscriber list.

Email correspondence

If you email me, I process your sender address, message, and any additional information you choose to provide in order to respond. The email service providers involved handle transmission and storage. Contacting me is voluntary.

The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, my legitimate interest in handling your enquiry. Article 6(1)(b) GDPR applies where correspondence concerns a contract or steps taken before entering into one. I delete correspondence when it is no longer needed to handle the enquiry, unless statutory retention obligations or legitimate grounds require continued storage.

Your rights

Subject to the applicable legal conditions, you have the right to:

  • Access your personal data.
  • Request correction or erasure of your data.
  • Request restriction of processing.
  • Receive your data through the right to data portability.
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests on grounds relating to your particular situation, under Article 21 GDPR.

To exercise your rights, contact me using the details in the legal notice.

Supervisory authority

You may lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for me is the State Commissioner for Data Protection of Lower Saxony (Der Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen).

The relevant rights are set out in Articles 15–21 and 77 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
